Monoblock Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps – Technical Description

  1. General Description

    Liquid ring monoblock vacuum pump

    Water circulating monoblock vacuum pump

Monoblock liquid ring vacuum pumps are compact vacuum systems designed for creating vacuum in various industrial processes that involve the transfer of gases and vapors. In these systems, the motor and pump housing are integrated into a single unit. These pumps offer a reliable, low-maintenance, and long-lasting solution, particularly suited for continuous operation on production lines. Compared to traditional vacuum pumps, they exhibit lower wear and tear, resulting in reduced maintenance and operating costs.

Vacuum generation is based on the liquid ring principle. Water is typically used as the working fluid, though oil or other suitable liquids may be used for special applications. These pumps can handle wet and contaminated gases, and are capable of operating safely even in aggressive environments. The monoblock design minimizes the need for external connections, making installation and commissioning quick and easy.

  1. Working Principle

A monoblock liquid ring vacuum pump primarily consists of an impeller (rotor), pump casing, and working liquid. Its operation involves the following steps:

  1. Startup & Liquid Filling: A specific volume of liquid is filled into the pump casing. This liquid is essential for generating centrifugal force and creating vacuum.
  2. Impeller Rotation: The eccentrically mounted impeller begins rotating, causing the liquid between the impeller blades to be flung toward the inner wall of the casing, forming a rotating liquid ring.
  3. Formation of Liquid Ring: The liquid ring creates a series of sealed cavities between the impeller blades and the casing.
  4. Gas Suction: As the impeller rotates, the volume of the cavities near the inlet increases, creating a vacuum and drawing gas into the pump.
  5. Compression: Continued rotation compresses the gas as the cavity volume decreases.
  6. Discharge: Once compressed, the gas is expelled through the discharge port. This continuous process maintains the vacuum during operation.

This principle allows liquid ring vacuum pumps to operate efficiently and handle moist or dirty gases without requiring lubrication or additional filtration systems, ensuring consistent and reliable performance.
